A good weekend for Bryn Taff Racing was marred by a fall. The Anglesey round of the North Gloucester racing club allowed Darren Jones to prove once again that he has what it takes to run with the big boys. In all races he gave BSB rider Bradley Hughes a close run. Darren finished all races on the podium with a win, two 2nd's and one 3rd place.
Bryn Owen's fall at the first corner, due to cold tyres, resulted in a fractured wrist and elbow that required surgery. Bryn has wisely elected to sit out the rest of the season giving him enough time to fully recouperate for next season. Following his decision, Bryn wanted to thank all
his sponsors, "I have had a difficult time this season but I couldn't have done it without my sponsors, so, Thanks!"
GET WELL SOON BRYN DEL!
A dismal start to special race. The damp morning weather gave Darren Jones high hopes for the later races. Such hopes were well founded with an outright 1st position by 4.5s in the opening race against 125s, 250s and 400s (a whopping 28s ahead of the nearest 125). The second race saw Darren finish a close 2nd to a 400 following an awful start where he lost 10 places. The final race began with a torrid opening lap where Darren almost lost the bike several times around the less-than-average surface of the famous Tonfanau. He valiantly fought back to 4th place, 2s behind 3rd aboard the Bryn Taff Racing bike that won the best presented bike prize
This strong performance following a difficult and injury strewn season has given Darren the hunger to return to reinstate his dominance at the Anglesey circuit and the return to Tonfanau for the Kelvin Beckett memorial.
Following a strong qualifying at the Oulton Park round of the Thundersport championship Bryn Owen again fell victim to engine problems forcing him out of the meeting. His qualifying position of 6th showed great promise for the race where he finished 3rd last year.
Bryn Owen returned to his home circuit where he had aspirations of victory. Perfect weather conditions made the racing a heated affair with numerous fallers and some scorching times. The 125GP class's front-runners lapped in the 1:11s, times that would decimate a local club race.
Bryn put in strong performance finishing well within the top-10 and just shy of the leading pack in both races.
Last weekend Darren and Jonty both returned to racing after their lengthy break. The Wirral 100 race played host to the ACU GSX-R cup and F2 Sidecars and made for a busy paddock and entertaining racing.
Darren had a succesful meeting with a 3rd and a 2nd while Jonty struggled with arm-pump to finish 19th and 15th.
The MotoGP paddock was not only host to the most successful MotoGP racer of all time (Valentino Rossi, if you didn't know) but also the most successful Welsh racing team. Thundersport hve run the support races for the Donington MotoGP round for the past two years with considerable success. This year was no exception with great racing in front of a crowd of 40,000 on Saturday. Unfortunately Bryn's race didn't go to plan. He suffered from brake problems and had to pull in after completing only two laps. Hopefully next year at Silverstone will be more successful - and easier to get out of!.
