With the previous round on 25th May, our two riders will have to keep focused until their next outing on the 1st and 2nd of August at Anglesey. Both plan to keep training and hope to get some track time to keep in the groove.
In a soaking wet seventh round of the Thundersport GB championship Bryn Owen battled it out with the usual front runners to finish on the podium for the first time this season. His ride in the treacherous conditions was nothing short of masterful. For a full breakdown of the results please visit SportsTiming.
The Bank Holiday meeting at Anglesey saw changeable conditions but consistent performance from Darren. The first race saw him battle through fog and a plethora of riders, some on 250s, to close in on eventual winner Dylan Wyn Davies. Brimming with confidence he made some minor changes to the Bryn Taff Racing machine and pushed hard producing the performance of his career. The final laps saw Darren fending off Dylan, ending in his maiden win by a margin of undr a second.
Jonty suffered from tyre issues in the first race after running in 5th position for the early laps until his pace decreased resulting in a 12th in the red-flagged race. The second race ended in a frustrating 20th after he showed such strong pace in the early laps of race one.
Saturday 18th May saw the first race at the parkland circuit of Oulton get underway under glorious sunshine.
Darren began the meeting fighting for confidence after a torrid time at the previous meeting where he high-sided out of second position. There was never any doubt that he would put the past behind him and he promptly put in a strong performance with a 7th overall in the combinerd 125 and 250 qualifying race and a 7th in the final. The final saw a tough battle between Darren and close-friend Dylan Davies aboard his KRP bike. The 2008 champion will be under pressure to climb the championship standings after last year's runner-up Connor Behan again put points between them.
The turnout for the 600 class meant two full grids with number in excess of 35 in each race. With such a depth of field, Jonty performed well against regular British Supersport and Superstock riders including David Jones on his Triumph and the Haribo Starmix duo of Liam Lyon and Johnny Blackshaw. The first race resulted in a 15th, good enough to qualify for the main final race. That race saw his rear Pirelli tyre deteriorate to such a state that it lacked grip out of any of the medium-speed corners forcing his pace to slow and resulting in a 34th placing. He believes his performance will greatly improve at the next round where we return to Anglesey.
